EXCLUSIVE: Huskies Get Major Boost as UCLA Star Switches Commitment, Set to Make Immediate Impact on UW Defense

The Washington Huskies secured a major recruiting win for their 2026 football class by landing Ramzak Fruean, one of the top defensive prospects in the state of Washington. Fruean, a 6‑foot‑4, 215‑pound linebacker out of Bethel High School (Spanaway, WA), officially signed with UW on Dec. 3, 2025, after de‑committing from UCLA earlier in the cycle.

Fruean had first committed to UCLA following an official visit in the summer, but reopened his recruitment after coaching changes in Westwood. Once back on the market, the Huskies moved quickly to bring him into their fold, ultimately convincing Fruean to stay in‑state and join Washington’s defense.

Ranked among the top linebackers in the state by major recruiting services, Fruean is listed in UW’s 2026 signing class as a three‑star linebacker who can play multiple roles within the defensive front. His athletic profile — highlighted by size, speed, and versatility — makes him a valuable addition to Washington’s linebacker depth chart.

During his senior season with Bethel High, Fruean was one of the region’s most productive defenders. He earned 4A South Puget Sound League South Co‑Player of the Year honors, notching double-digit tackles for loss, multiple sacks and interceptions, and even contributed on offense as a receiver.

Fruean’s commitment comes as part of a historic recruiting haul for the Huskies, who assembled one of the top classes in program history by National Signing Day. His decision to stay close to home gives the Dawgs a local-grown linebacker with the potential to contribute early in his collegiate career.

Washington’s coaching staff, led by head coach Jedd Fisch, emphasized Fruean’s versatility and fit within their defensive scheme as key reasons for his recruitment. With his combination of size and instincts, Fruean adds a dynamic presence to a linebacker corps that will look to make an immediate impact when he arrives on campus in January.
