BREAKING: South Carolina Lands All-Star 6-Foot-7 Transfer from Conference USA to Fill Key Void and Bolster Rebuilding Line

The South Carolina Gamecocks continue to revamp their roster, officially adding a 6-foot-7 offensive lineman from New Mexico State, to their 2026 squad. The addition addresses a key void on a rebuilding offensive line and marks the seventh lineman the Gamecocks have brought in from the transfer portal.

Armando Nieves, a redshirt junior, started 10 games at right tackle for the Aggies in 2025, logging over 600 snaps. According to Pro Football Focus, he allowed six sacks and 19 quarterback hurries, earning pass-blocking and run-blocking grades of 51.2 and 59.6, respectively. His size and experience provide South Carolina with a physically imposing presence to anchor the line.

Before his time at New Mexico State, Nieves played at Hutchinson Community College, appearing in four games and contributing to the Blue Dragons’ NJCAA National Championship. A native of Phoenix, Arizona, Nieves brings a blend of championship experience and proven performance at multiple levels, making him a versatile and valuable addition.

This transfer also comes under the guidance of new offensive line coach Randy Clements, who has overseen a complete overhaul of the unit. With seven transfers now in the line room, the Gamecocks are hoping to combine veteran leadership with fresh talent to improve both pass protection and the run game for the 2026 season.

Nieves joins a growing 2026 transfer class, which also includes quarterback Lucian Anderson III from Bowling Green State, signaling South Carolina’s intent to rebuild quickly and compete in the SEC despite last season’s struggles.

Fans will be watching closely to see how Nieves adapts to the SEC level and anchors a line that could define the Gamecocks’ offensive success this season.
