BOOST: South Carolina lands transfer commitment from former Big 12 tight end

South Carolina has added another piece through the transfer portal, landing a commitment from tight end, a former Big 12 contributor who will now play close to home. The Chapin, South Carolina native announced his decision after spending time at Appalachian State and UCF, setting up a return just 25 minutes from his hometown.

Max Drag began his college career at Appalachian State after signing with the Mountaineers in 2023. He saw limited action early, appearing in just one game as a freshman, but took on a larger role in 2024 when he played in all 11 games and scored his first career touchdown. His growth as a reliable blocker helped him carve out consistent snaps.

Despite expectations that he would remain at App State, Drag entered the transfer portal and ultimately landed at UCF, where he spent the 2025 season. He appeared in 11 games for the Knights, continuing to serve primarily as a pass-blocking tight end and gaining experience at the Power Four level.

With two years of eligibility remaining, Drag now joins a South Carolina program that did not recruit him out of high school but identified him as a valuable addition through the portal. His size, blocking ability, and experience give the Gamecocks added depth and flexibility at the tight end position.

Drag becomes the 25th transfer commitment for South Carolina in this cycle and is currently the only tight end to pledge to the Gamecocks from the portal. His addition further underscores the program’s aggressive approach to roster building as it prepares for the upcoming seasons.
