Because of this organizational depth, the Tigers could consider moving one of their controllable pitching assets, making them a potential trade partner for the Philadelphia Phillies, who are searching for pitching help. According to Nick Deeds of MLB Trade Rumors, right-hander Keider Montero is among the pitchers Philadelphia could target due to his optionability and big-league experience.
However, dealing Montero may not be an ideal move for Detroit given their recent injury concerns in the pitching staff. Although Montero’s spring performance has been inconsistent, which lowers his trade value, it also makes him a more expendable piece if the Tigers decide to move him for a strong enough return.
Since joining the team’s pitching mix in 2024, Montero has served primarily as a depth contributor but has been valuable during late-season stretches, helping the Tigers reach the postseason in consecutive years. In 2025, he recorded a 4.37 ERA and 1.39 WHIP across 20 appearances (12 starts), finishing with a 5-3 record and a 0.6 bWAR, while also delivering excellent postseason relief work by allowing no runs over 8.1 playoff innings with a 0.48 WHIP.
Ultimately, Detroit would likely only trade Montero if Philadelphia offers meaningful prospect compensation, as the 25-year-old remains useful rotation insurance; otherwise, the Tigers may prefer to keep him rather than move him for a minimal return. ⚾
