The Philadelphia Phillies spent much of the offseason evaluating their future with third baseman Alec Bohm, who is entering the final year of his contract.
At one point, there was speculation that the team might trade Bohm if doing so helped them pursue star free agents such as Alex Bregman or Bo Bichette.
MLB insider Jon Morosi explained that Philadelphia would only consider moving Bohm if a clear upgrade was available, noting that the team could explore different roster improvements but would need a strong replacement before making such a decision.

Although the Phillies were unable to sign either Bregman or Bichette, they still made a major move by securing pitcher Jesús Luzardo with a five-year, $135 million extension that keeps him with the team through the 2031 season and includes a club option for 2032, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN.
Following that extension, many believe Bohm’s long-term future with the Phillies has become even more uncertain.
Writer Christopher Kline suggested that while Bohm remains productive—recording back-to-back 97-RBI seasons in 2023 and 2024—his slight dip in performance last year and the team’s evolving plans make a long-term reunion unlikely.
As a result, the Phillies could choose several paths with Bohm, but there is a growing sense that the upcoming season might be his last with the club.
Unless a trade emerges, Philadelphia may simply allow the season to unfold before deciding his future, especially as expectations for Bohm have not fully matched the promise he once showed. ⚾
