Brandon Nimmo’s game-saving catch against the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday may have come at a significant cost for the Texas Rangers.
Following Monday’s 6-3 victory over the Cleveland Guardians, manager Skip Schumaker revealed that Nimmo suffered a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder after crashing into the outfield wall while making the highlight-reel play.
According to Schumaker, Nimmo is undergoing additional testing and consulting with doctors, with the possibility that he could be placed on the injured list depending on the results.
The potential loss would be another major setback for a Rangers team already battling a growing list of injuries during a demanding stretch of 15 consecutive games.
Texas had already added rookie Cameron Cauley and veteran pitcher Chris Paddack to the roster on Monday, moves that became even more significant as concerns about Nimmo’s condition increased.
The injury news arrived just one day after the Rangers placed Wyatt Langford on the injured list with a hamstring strain that is expected to sideline him for much of July.

Despite dealing with injuries earlier in the year, Nimmo had been one of Texas’ key contributors, batting .262 with eight home runs and 29 RBIs through 82 games. He had also begun to heat up offensively in June after a difficult May, showing signs of regaining his form at the plate.
If Nimmo is forced to miss time, Cauley’s versatility could become increasingly valuable. Although he made his Major League debut at second base on Monday, the rookie has extensive experience in center field and could help fill multiple roles as the Rangers adjust their lineup.
Even with several star players sidelined, Texas continued to find ways to win. Monday’s victory featured contributions from newly promoted players and recent additions, further highlighting the club’s resilience amid adversity.
Schumaker praised the team’s mindset after the win, pointing to the positive atmosphere in the clubhouse despite key injuries. With several regulars unavailable, the Rangers continue to rely on depth, adaptability, and determination to remain competitive in the AL West race.
