Former Atlanta Braves outfielder Jarred Kelenic has signed a new minor league contract with the Texas Rangers, marking another opportunity for the former top prospect to revive his career.
The move comes just days after Texas released Kelenic from its organization, making his return a surprising but low-risk decision for the club.
According to his transaction log, the Rangers quickly brought him back after reassessing their outfield depth and organizational needs.
Kelenic’s path to this latest agreement has been anything but straightforward. After his stint with the Braves ended following the 2025 season, he joined the Chicago White Sox organization before being designated for assignment earlier this year.
Texas signed him to a minor league deal in June, promoted him to the major league roster for a brief stretch, then designated him for assignment after seven games.
He later returned to Triple-A Round Rock before being released again, only to re-sign with the organization three days later.
Although Kelenic has continued to struggle offensively in the majors, he has shown encouraging production at the Triple-A level this season.
His strong numbers in Round Rock have kept him on the Rangers’ radar despite his inconsistent MLB results.
Once regarded as one of baseball’s elite prospects after being selected sixth overall in the 2018 MLB Draft, Kelenic has yet to translate his minor league success into sustained major league production, but at just 27 years old, he still offers upside that clubs are willing to gamble on.
For the Rangers, the signing represents a low-cost depth move with potential upside as they continue to navigate the remainder of the season.
If Kelenic continues to perform well at Triple-A, he could earn another opportunity in Arlington should injuries arise or the club need another left-handed bat.
While there are no guarantees he will return to the major league roster, Texas clearly believes his talent is worth another look, giving the former Braves outfielder another chance to prove he can still become a productive big league contributor.
