Taylor County offensive lineman Bryten Close didn’t hesitate when it came time to choose his college destination. The 6-foot-4, 300-pound prospect announced his commitment to the University of Louisville, calling it a clear and easy decision.
Close, who has steadily risen on recruiting boards across the state, said the connection he felt with the Cardinals’ coaching staff and the proximity to home made Louisville the perfect fit.
“From the first time I visited, it just felt like home,” Close said. “Coach Brohm and his staff made it clear that they believed in me not just as a player, but as a person.
That meant a lot.” Louisville has made recruiting in-state talent a priority under head coach Jeff Brohm, and Close’s commitment adds to a growing list of local players choosing to stay home and represent the Commonwealth at the college level.
Close has been a key anchor on the offensive line for Taylor County, helping power one of the region’s most productive offenses. Known for his physicality and work ethic, he’s been praised by coaches for his leadership on and off the field.
His combination of size, strength, and agility has drawn attention from several other programs, but ultimately, Louisville stood out above the rest.
The Cardinals’ offensive scheme and development track record for linemen also played a big role in Close’s decision.

With Brohm’s offensive mind and a strong emphasis on building from the trenches, Close said he feels confident he’ll be put in the best position to grow and succeed. “I know I’ll be developed at Louisville,” he added. “That’s where I want to be for the next four years.”
Close’s commitment continues Louisville’s momentum on the recruiting trail, especially with in-state prospects. As the Cardinals look to build a foundation of homegrown talent, landing a high-upside lineman like Close is a big step forward.
With his decision made, Close says he’s now focused on finishing strong in his senior season and preparing to make an impact when he arrives at Louisville.
