Reds ace Hunter Greene continues to make progress in his recovery from a groin injury that landed him on the injured list two weeks ago.
“The velocity is great,” said Greene, who threw 35 pitches in a recent bullpen session. “Easy 95. No discomfort in the groin. Everything feels good.”
He’s scheduled for another bullpen session later this week while the Reds are in Pittsburgh, though the team has not yet announced a target date for his return.
“It’s been going well,” Greene said. “I’ve met all my recovery milestones. I’m excited to get back out there.”
Greene sustained the injury during a series in Atlanta. Despite his absence, the Reds have managed to hold steady.

In his place, top prospect Chase Petty (ranked No. 6 in the Reds’ system and No. 90 overall by MLB Pipeline) made his big-league debut on April 30 against the Cardinals, struggling in that outing and again on May 11 versus the Astros, allowing four runs over three innings.
Petty was expected to start again Saturday, but manager Terry Francona opted for a bullpen game instead. Brent Suter and Lyon Richardson combined to allow just one run over five innings, helping the Reds to a 4–1 win over the Guardians.
Petty remained available in relief for Sunday’s series finale.
