Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Tucker exited Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds due to a jammed right ring finger, raising concerns about his availability for the upcoming road trip.
The injury occurred during a first-inning slide into second base, after which Tucker remained in the game for two more at-bats, including a ground-rule double, before leaving in the fifth inning.
X-rays were negative, and the team considers him day-to-day, with hopes that the scheduled off day on Monday will aid in his recovery.
Tucker’s early departure was precautionary, influenced by the Cubs’ lead in the game. Manager Craig Counsell expressed optimism about Tucker’s return, indicating that the team is taking a cautious approach to ensure his health for the remainder of the season. Tucker also sustained a minor cut on his nose during the slide but reported feeling “all right” postgame.
The injury also ended Tucker’s impressive streak of 29 consecutive successful stolen bases, dating back to September 2023.
Despite this setback, Tucker has been a significant contributor to the Cubs’ offense this season, boasting a .284 batting average with 12 home runs, 39 RBIs, and 16 stolen bases.

Acquired from the Houston Astros in a high-profile trade last December, Tucker has quickly become a key player for the Cubs.
His presence in the lineup has been instrumental in the team’s strong performance, as they aim to break a four-year playoff drought.
As the Cubs prepare for a challenging road trip, including games against top teams like the Detroit Tigers and Philadelphia Phillies, Tucker’s health will be closely monitored.
The team remains hopeful that he will be ready to return to action shortly, continuing his impactful role in their pursuit of postseason success.
