Major Blow For The Giants: Giants Shock Fans with Unexpected Decision That May Undermine Russell Wilson’s Role as Franchise Quarterback

The New York Giants have brought in veteran quarterback Russell Wilson as their new starter, and he’s clearly thrilled to be part of the team.

Wilson has been a visible supporter of other New York sports, often attending New York Knicks playoff games this year, signaling his commitment to the city.

On the “7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony” podcast, Wilson shared his enthusiasm about joining the Giants.

“This is a huge opportunity,” he said. “The bright lights don’t bother me—I’ve been here before, and I’m ready.”

Wilson signed a one-year deal with the Giants this offseason worth $10.5 million guaranteed, with incentives that could push it to $21 million.

Although this marks another chapter in his career, not everyone is optimistic about how it will unfold.

In a June 3 article for Bleacher Report, analyst Alex Kay listed five NFL quarterbacks who could be benched during the 2025 season—and Wilson was one of them.

Kay explained that while teams with solid quarterbacks often invest heavily to keep them, those without stability tend to prioritize finding it in the offseason.

He categorized these five players as starters with a realistic chance of being replaced, and pointed to Wilson as someone who might not finish the season as the Giants’ QB1.

Despite putting up a decent 270 passing yards and two touchdowns in his only playoff appearance with the Steelers, the team was routed by the Ravens in the Wild Card Round.

Kay suggests that this new stint in New York may be short-lived.
