Breaking: Alabama Confirm The Blockbuster Signing Of Another Special Star

Under Nick Saban’s leadership, Alabama’s football program became a top destination for wide receivers aspiring to reach the NFL. From Julio Jones to Jameson Williams, the Crimson Tide produced nine first-round wide receivers over 14 years, with 12 receivers being drafted overall during that period.

Saban’s retirement in January raised concerns about Alabama’s ability to uphold the high standards he established. However, one area expected to remain strong is the wide receiver unit. The new head coach, Kalen DeBoer, who played wide receiver in college, made sure to bring his former Washington receivers coach, JaMarcus Shephard, to his staff in Tuscaloosa.

The strong connection and talent development skills of DeBoer and Shephard made Tuscaloosa an appealing destination for Washington transfer Germie Bernard.

“The winning formula that DeBoer has,” Bernard said on Wednesday. “If you look at his history, every school he’s been to has had success, with an explosive offense that gets the ball to the receivers, and that’s what I wanted to be part of.”

DeBoer and Shephard’s recent success in sending three Washington receivers—Rome Odunze, Ja’Lyn Polk, and Jalen McMillan—into the first three rounds of the NFL draft adds to their credibility. Alabama’s coaching staff has praised Bernard’s leadership during the transition and is hopeful for another successful draft story in the spring.

“Germie has been fantastic, with a great camp and spring. He’s an excellent player,” said Alabama offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan. “Beyond that, his leadership, character, and willingness to support his teammates make him invaluable. He knows the system well and has been a great addition.”

Bernard’s relationship with Shephard goes beyond football. On Tuesday, Bernard highlighted Shephard’s impact on his faith, emphasizing Shephard’s selflessness and influence throughout the program.

“Shephard’s coaching is well-known, but it’s more than that. His faith, his belief in God, and how he shares that with his players and everyone in the building is inspiring. He’s a great man, cares for others, and is incredibly unselfish. He’s just an all-around great person,” Bernard said.
