BREAKING:Toppin Breaks Into Wooden Award Midseason Top 25

LUBBOCK – Texas Tech forward JT Toppin has been named to the John R. Wooden Award 2025–26 Midseason Top 25 Watchlist, recognizing the nation’s top performers midway through the college basketball season.

Toppin is averaging 20.9 points, 10.9 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game, while leading the Big 12 with nine double-doubles. The junior earned 2024–25 Big 12 Player of the Year honors and was a Consensus Second Team All-American. His selection was determined by a national panel of college basketball experts.

The Midseason Top 25 list highlights players considered leading contenders for the Wooden Award All-American Team™ and the Wooden Award® Most Outstanding Player, college basketball’s most prestigious individual honor. This season marks the 50th anniversary of the award, which is presented by Principal.

Toppin is one of 25 standout players nationwide included on the list, representing programs from across the country.

Earlier this week, Toppin was named Big 12 Player of the Week after posting his fourth consecutive double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds at No. 7 Houston. He now owns 40 career double-doubles, tied for second-most among all active players.

A junior from Dallas, Toppin is in his second season at Texas Tech after beginning his career at New Mexico. In 83 career games, he has totaled 1,340 points, 788 rebounds, and 141 blocks, ranking among the nation’s active leaders in both scoring and rebounding.

The No. 14 Red Raiders return to action Saturday at Colorado before hosting Utah and BYU next week at United Supermarkets Arena.
