Jedd Fisch is widely regarded as an offensive-minded coach who has built his strategy by drawing ideas from both college football and the National Football League.
Throughout his coaching career, he has worked under several elite offensive innovators, constantly refining his system while remaining open to new concepts, adjustments, and outside perspectives.

To further strengthen his offensive staff, Fisch is moving toward hiring Matt Cavanaugh, a two-time Super Bowl champion as a player and a former championship-winning offensive coordinator.
According to Pete Nakos, Fisch is close to finalizing a deal to bring Cavanaugh in as a senior offensive assistant for the Washington Huskies.

Cavanaugh built a notable football legacy as a quarterback at the Pittsburgh Panthers, helping lead the program to a 1976 national championship before being drafted 50th overall by the New England Patriots in 1978.
During his professional career, he won two Super Bowls with the San Francisco 49ers as a backup quarterback behind Joe Montana.
After transitioning into coaching, Cavanaugh spent time with several NFL organizations, including the Arizona Cardinals, Chicago Bears, Baltimore Ravens, New York Jets, and the former Washington Redskins, mostly serving as a quarterbacks coach or offensive coordinator.
His most recent role was as a senior offensive assistant with the Jets in 2021.
The hire is expected to bring veteran NFL experience back into college football, where Cavanaugh will help refine Fisch’s offensive system and provide additional guidance for Washington’s quarterbacks.
The move is seen as a strong step for the Huskies heading into the 2026 season, given Cavanaugh’s decades of experience and championship pedigree. ⚾
