The relationship between the Philadelphia Phillies and Alec Bohm has been a rollercoaster since his MLB debut. While he started strong, inconsistent performance in recent seasons has left the third baseman’s future with the club uncertain, prompting the Phillies to explore other options during the offseason.
MLB insider Jon Morosi explained that any move involving Bohm would require a clear upgrade, potentially targeting stars like Alex Bregman or Bo Bichette. “There are different ways the Phillies could improve, but trading Bohm would only make sense if a significant upgrade was on the table,” Morosi said.

Instead, the Phillies opted to secure left-hander Jesus Luzardo with a five-year, $135 million extension through 2031, with a club option for 2032, locking in a key starter well before he reached free agency, as reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

While Luzardo’s extension strengthens Philadelphia’s rotation, it complicates Bohm’s standing. Entering a contract year worth $10.2 million, Bohm is under pressure to perform after a disappointing 2025 campaign in which his doubles fell from 44 to 18, RBIs dropped from 97 to 57, and injuries limited him to 120 games.
With the Phillies focused on contending and returning to the World Series for the first time since 2022, Bohm faces a pivotal season. A strong showing could solidify his role, but continued inconsistency may see him traded or replaced by one of the team’s top prospects in 2027.
