The Tennessee Volunteers men’s basketball program remains highly active in the transfer portal under head coach Rick Barnes, but the major difference this offseason is the program’s significantly boosted NIL resources aimed at competing for elite national talent.
According to VolQuest’s Grant Ramey, Tennessee is positioned to be among the top NIL spenders in college basketball next season, with On3’s Pete Nakos reporting that the Vols could allocate $10 million or more toward roster construction.
One of Tennessee’s top priorities is highly coveted transfer Juke Harris, who has already taken both an in-home visit and campus meetings with the program.

While the Vols were initially viewed as trailing in his recruitment, momentum has shifted, with Tennessee now believed to be in a strong position.
Pete Nakos also noted growing confidence that Tennessee can close the deal, with Harris potentially commanding a deal exceeding $3 million—an investment the Vols appear ready to match.
The relationship between Rick Barnes and Wake Forest head coach Steve Forbes may also work in Tennessee’s favor, while Harris continues to navigate the NBA Draft evaluation process, which could delay his final decision.

VolQuest’s Austin Price added that Barnes has been personally involved in the recruitment, emphasizing how aggressively Tennessee has pursued the standout wing.
What once looked like a Michigan-led pursuit has now evolved into a tighter battle between Tennessee and North Carolina.

Harris, ranked as the No. 1 small forward by 247Sports, remains one of the most impactful names in the portal, with programs like Michigan and North Carolina still in the mix, even as Tennessee gains ground.
Although Barnes entered the race later than some competitors, Tennessee has quickly closed the gap and now believes it is in position to win a major recruiting battle.
With multiple commitments already secured, the Vols remain active and are not finished adding talent this cycle.
