The South Carolina Gamecocks are looking to build momentum in their 2027 recruiting class, which currently features just three commitments, meaning the coaching staff will need to ramp up efforts over the summer to add more talent.
One major opportunity has emerged with four-star EDGE rusher James Pace III, who recently narrowed his recruitment to a final five schools.

The South Carolina Gamecocks made the cut, joining Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee, and Maryland as finalists for the standout defender.
The 6-foot-4, 233-pound prospect from Hyattsville, Maryland, is highly regarded in the 2027 cycle. He is ranked among the top EDGE rushers in the nation and is also considered one of the top players in his home state, playing for powerhouse program DeMatha Catholic High School in the DMV area.

While Pace has yet to schedule an official visit to Columbia, he does have trips lined up to Syracuse on June 12 and Maryland on June 19.
That leaves the Gamecocks still working to secure a key visit window as they try to strengthen their position in his recruitment.
For South Carolina, landing a player of Pace’s caliber would be a significant boost to a 2027 class currently ranked outside the top tier nationally.
Head coach Shane Beamer and his staff are expected to continue pushing in the coming weeks to get Pace on campus and improve their standing in his recruitment.
