System Upgrade: Philadelphia Phillies Shock Baseball World by Snatching Another New York Yankees Key Pitching Prospect in Surprise Roster Move

The Philadelphia Phillies will continue their series against the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday at Citizens Bank Park, coming off a narrow 5-4 victory in Monday’s opener.

Phillies Add Former Yankees Pitching Prospect

In roster news, Philadelphia has signed right-handed pitcher Brian Keller to a minor league contract, according to MLB.com. The move was also reported on social media by Phillies Tailgate, who noted his addition to the organization’s depth chart.

Keller, originally selected by the New York Yankees in the 39th round of the 2016 MLB Draft, has yet to make his Major League debut. He showed promise in Triple-A in 2021 with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, posting a 2-2 record and a 2.77 ERA over 26 appearances.

He also delivered a standout moment in 2019 when he threw a no-hitter in Double-A with the Trenton Thunder, further highlighting his minor league potential.

After leaving the Yankees organization, Keller spent time with the Boston Red Sox system, going 6-5 with a 3.27 ERA in 31 games for Triple-A Worcester in 2022. His most recent professional action came in Japan in 2023 before an injury halted his momentum.

Now with Philadelphia, Keller is expected to provide additional pitching depth as he works his way through the system.

Phillies Staying Hot in 2026

Philadelphia Phillies Sign Former New York Yankees Prospect

Philadelphia has surged in May, with standout performances across the lineup. Bryson Stott has driven in key runs, Kyle Schwarber remains a consistent force in the order, and Alec Bohm has been hitting over .300 during the month.

After finishing this series with Cincinnati, the Phillies will remain at home to face the Cleveland Guardians later in the week, continuing a stretch of games that could further shape their postseason push.
