Roster Shake Up: Michael Malone ignites UNC’s 2028 recruiting cycle in explosive fashion, landing another massive elite big man target as the Tar Heels make an early statement on the trail.

Michael Malone, Chuck Martin, and Pat Sullivan kicked off the live period by attending the Adidas 3SSB event in Mishawaka, Indiana.

Quickly, they zeroed in on a top prospect they’d love for UNC. After just one game, they offered 7-foot Yann Kamagate, a 2028 recruit, who impressed with 16 points, 19 rebounds.

At just a sophomore, he’s 7-1, 230 pounds—an imposing presence who would look fantastic in Carolina Blue. Since Thursday, offers have poured in from Kansas, Baylor, UCLA, and others, joining a list that already includes USC, Houston, and more.

According to Eric Bossi of 247Sports, Kamagate is a special athlete—just shy of seven feet, long, quick, and a relentless competitor. Though unranked, he’s expected to soar up the 2028 rankings, possibly as a five-star.
