The Texas Rangers made a series of roster moves on Friday ahead of their three-game series against the Houston Astros, headlined by the return of shortstop Corey Seager from the 10-day injured list.
Seager had been sidelined since June 30 with lower back inflammation and is back in the lineup after completing a successful rehab assignment.
Texas also added recently acquired right-handed reliever Chase Silseth to its active 26-man roster and recalled reliever Luis Curvelo from Triple-A Round Rock.
To clear roster space, the Rangers optioned infielder Josh Smith and reliever Winston Santos to Triple-A while designating veteran left-hander Marco Gonzales for assignment.
Seager, 32, has endured one of the toughest offensive seasons of his career, batting .182 with a .292 on-base percentage and a .374 slugging percentage over 51 games.
Despite his struggles, he has still hit 10 home runs and driven in 25 runs, and the Rangers are hoping his return will provide a boost as they continue their postseason push.
Silseth, 26, was acquired from the Los Angeles Angels earlier this week in the same trade that brought catcher Logan O’Hoppe to Texas.
He has been one of the Angels’ most effective relievers this season, posting a 2.72 ERA with 48 strikeouts in 39 2/3 innings.
Curvelo, meanwhile, returns after several stints with the big league club this season, where he has recorded a 7.56 ERA across eight appearances.
