The Philadelphia Phillies are set to open a three-game series against the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park on Monday night, with first pitch scheduled for 9:40 p.m. EDT. Before the game, Philadelphia made a roster move involving a 29-year-old infielder.
Phillies Release Infielder Luke Ritter
The Phillies have released second baseman Luke Ritter, according to MiLB transaction records.
Philadelphia signed Ritter to a minor-league contract on June 14 after he was released by the Detroit Tigers. However, his time in the organization has now come to an end without him reaching the majors.
Ritter spent his time with the Phillies at Double-A Reading, where he posted a .235/.350/.349 batting line over 45 games. He hit three home runs, recorded eight doubles and drove in 23 runs.
Luke Ritter’s Professional Career
Ritter was originally selected by the New York Mets in the seventh round, 208th overall, of the 2019 MLB Draft out of Wichita State. He remained in the Mets organization through the 2025 season before becoming a free agent.
The infielder signed a minor-league deal with the Los Angeles Angels in January, but they released him on March 21. He then joined the Tigers on a minor-league contract on April 17 before eventually landing with Philadelphia.
Despite spending several seasons in professional baseball, Ritter has yet to make his MLB debut with any organization.
Phillies Enter Monday on a Nine-Game Winning Streak
Philadelphia enters the Seattle series playing some of its best baseball of the season. The Phillies erased a four-run deficit against the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday, tying the game with two outs in the ninth before Kyle Schwarber launched a walk-off two-run homer.
The dramatic victory extended Philadelphia’s winning streak to nine games and improved its record to 73-58.
The Phillies currently hold the second National League Wild Card position, sitting two games behind the Chicago Cubs for the top Wild Card spot and three games behind the Atlanta Braves in the NL East.
