The Texas Rangers have activated left-handed reliever Robert Garcia from the 60-day injured list, the team announced.
To clear a spot on the active roster, Texas optioned right-handed pitcher Ben Peoples to Triple-A Round Rock. No corresponding 40-man roster move was necessary because the team already had an open spot.
Garcia, who was acquired from the Washington Nationals before the 2025 season in the trade that sent Nathaniel Lowe to Washington, enjoyed a strong 2025 campaign.
He posted a 2.95 ERA across 71 appearances and was expected to play an important role in the Rangers’ bullpen this season. However, a shoulder injury suffered in mid-April sidelined him for most of the year.
The left-hander recently began his return with a rehab outing for Round Rock on Saturday. He threw 16 pitches against four batters, giving up one hit while recording two strikeouts.
That performance was apparently enough for Texas to determine that Garcia was ready to rejoin the major-league bullpen.
His return comes at an important time for the Rangers, who have struggled to find dependable middle-relief options. Garcia should immediately become a potential go-to arm for manager Skip Schumaker in the sixth and seventh innings.
Peoples, meanwhile, had been optioned to the minors in mid-August before returning to the major-league roster when Cole Winn and Peyton Gray were placed on the injured list.
