BOOST: ECU’s Jayvontay Conner Reconsiders Transfer, Set to Lead Pirates in Military Bowl

East Carolina tight end Jayvontay Conner has decided to reconsider his earlier plans to enter the transfer portal and will return to lead the Pirates in the Military Bowl against Pittsburgh on Dec. 27. The redshirt sophomore brings experience, athleticism, and playmaking ability to the Pirates’ offense as they prepare for the postseason matchup.

Conner had initially entered the transfer portal following a productive 2025 season, during which he recorded 23 receptions for 333 yards and three touchdowns. He also logged nearly 500 offensive snaps, highlighted by a career-long 79-yard reception against NC State, demonstrating his ability to stretch the field and make explosive plays. His decision to explore the portal came as he sought a situation where he could assume a primary role in the offense.

However, with the Military Bowl approaching, Conner opted to remain with ECU, giving head coach Phil Longo and the Pirates’ offense a proven weapon at tight end. His return provides stability for the team’s passing attack and ensures continuity in the offensive game plan heading into the bowl game.

Conner’s journey at East Carolina began after transferring from Ole Miss, where he redshirted in 2023. He quickly became a key contributor for ECU in 2025, starting six games and appearing in all 12 contests during the regular season. His size, skill set, and NFL‑level athleticism make him a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses, particularly in high-stakes postseason play.

The Pirates’ coaching staff praised Conner’s decision to return, emphasizing the leadership and experience he brings to a team navigating a season of transition. With Conner back in the lineup, ECU can rely on his ability to make clutch plays and provide a reliable target in critical situations.

Conner’s return not only boosts ECU’s chances in the Military Bowl but also signals his commitment to the program as he looks to continue developing his game and showcase his talent on a national stage. Fans will be watching closely to see how he impacts the Pirates’ offense as they aim to close the 2025 season on a high note.
