MAJOR BOOST :Seattle Mariners Sign Rob Refsnyder, Former Red Sox and Yankees Hitter With Elite On-Base Ability

The Seattle Mariners have strengthened their lineup against left-handed pitching. On Monday, the club announced it had signed Rob Refsnyder to a one-year contract.
Refsnyder, an outfielder, has enjoyed his most notable MLB stints with the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox. He has also appeared in games for the Minnesota Twins, Tampa Bay Rays, Toronto Blue Jays, and Texas Rangers. Most recently, he suited up for Boston from 2022 through 2025.
His calling card is clear: hitting left-handed pitching. Over his MLB career, Refsnyder owns a .281 batting average with an .826 OPS against lefties, compared to a .229 average and .633 OPS versus right-handers.
Refsnyder has belted 22 career home runs against left-handed pitchers—twice as many as he has hit off righties despite fewer at-bats. His plate discipline also shines in those matchups, drawing one walk for every 1.5 strikeouts against lefties, compared to one walk for every three strikeouts against right-handers.
With Seattle already boasting a deep lineup, Refsnyder profiles as a complementary piece who can be deployed in favorable matchups. He has logged time in both right and left field in recent seasons, and earlier in his career also saw action in the infield.
Now 34, Refsnyder gets the opportunity to contribute to an American League pennant contender.
