BOOST: Kansas Basketball Gets Boost as Darryn Peterson Set to Return from Injury

Kansas basketball fans received encouraging news as star guard Darryn Peterson is set to return to action following an injury-plagued start to the season.

Peterson, who has appeared in just four games due to quad cramps and other health concerns, has shown his scoring ability when on the court, averaging 19.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.8 assists while shooting 52.8% from the field. His most recent outing came during the Jayhawks’ 77–76 overtime win against NC State, where he notched 17 points before being subbed out late due to cramping.

Head coach Bill Self confirmed that Peterson is progressing well and that his return is being carefully managed alongside input from the player and his family. “He’s making steady progress, and we’re optimistic he’ll be ready when the time is right. Darryn wants to be out there, and the improvement we’re seeing is very promising,” Self said.

The Jayhawks are hopeful Peterson will be available for Kansas’ Big 12 opener against the UCF Golden Knights on January 3, a matchup that could set the tone for conference play. His return is expected to provide a major lift to Kansas’ offense and leadership on the court, particularly as the team faces multiple ranked opponents this season.

Fans can look forward to seeing Peterson back in action, as his presence could be a game-changer for the Jayhawks’ push toward postseason success.
