BOOST: Rangers Add Mid-Rotation Stability and Veteran Leadership of Red Sox Ace to Rotation Headed by deGrom, Eovaldi, Leiter, and Rocker

The Texas Rangers have officially bolstered their starting rotation by signing former Boston Red Sox right-hander Lucas Giolito, adding a veteran presence and mid-rotation stability to a staff already led by Jacob deGrom, Nathan Eovaldi, Jack Leiter, and Kumar Rocker.

Giolito, 31, missed the entire 2024 season recovering from right elbow ulnar collateral ligament repair, but returned in 2025 to make 26 starts for the Red Sox. He posted a 3.41 ERA with 121 strikeouts, 56 walks, and 145 innings pitched, showing he is ready to contribute immediately at the major-league level.

Lucas Giolito's incredible start

Although Giolito expressed interest in returning to Boston, the Red Sox’s acquisition of right-hander Sonny Gray opened the door for him to sign elsewhere. Rangers officials confirmed that his experience and leadership will provide both on-field depth and guidance in the clubhouse for a young rotation.

“Lucas is a proven major-league starter with the ability to stabilize any rotation,” said Rangers management. “His experience, competitiveness, and professionalism make him a perfect fit for our team.”

Giolito’s MLB career began when the Washington Nationals selected him 16th overall in the 2012 draft. He spent significant time with the Chicago White Sox, earning an All-Star selection in 2019, before stints with the Los Angeles Angels and Cleveland Guardians. Over his career, he has combined high strikeout potential with periods of inconsistency, but remains a proven big-league arm capable of handling a full season in a key rotation spot.

With Giolito officially on board, the Rangers enter 2026 with one of the most formidable rotations in baseball, blending veteran leadership and elite talent. Fans can expect him to slot into the middle of the rotation, providing crucial innings and experience behind deGrom and Eovaldi, while complementing rising stars Jack Leiter and Kumar Rocker.
