BREAKING: Gamecocks Legend Steve Taneyhill Remembered: Celebration of Life Set for Saturday in Columbia”

A celebration of life honoring former South Carolina Gamecocks quarterback Steve Taneyhill will take place this Saturday in Columbia. The event will be hosted at CB 18, one of Taneyhill’s businesses, located in the Five Points neighborhood.

Taneyhill passed away in December at the age of 52, with a private memorial service held shortly afterward.

The Altoona, Pennsylvania, native is remembered for his iconic mullet and charismatic presence as the Gamecocks’ quarterback from 1992 to 1995. During his collegiate career, he set multiple school passing records and was named Sports Illustrated’s Freshman of the Year in 1992. He also guided South Carolina to its first-ever bowl victory in the 1995 CarQuest Bowl following the 1994 season.

After college, Taneyhill remained in South Carolina and pursued a coaching career, leading Chesterfield High School to three consecutive state championships from 2007 to 2009. He also captured state titles coaching the eight-man team at Cambridge Academy in Greenwood and served as an assistant at West Ashley High School and head coach at Union County High School.

In recognition of his contributions to South Carolina football, Taneyhill was inducted into the USC Athletics Hall of Fame in 2006.

The family has requested that those wishing to honor Taneyhill’s legacy consider donating to the Taneyhill Fund through Garnet Trust.
