Philadelphia Phillies left-hander Cristopher Sánchez has secured a six-year, $104 million extension covering 2027–32, with $20 million of that total deferred and scheduled to be paid between 2035 and 2044.
He will still earn $3 million this season under his current four-year, $22.5 million deal, though he forfeits the remaining $16 million guaranteed through 2028 as part of the new agreement.
The contract, finalized Sunday, includes a $6 million signing bonus and yearly salaries that rise from $6 million in 2027 to $27 million in both 2031 and 2032.
Of those final two years, $10 million each will be deferred and paid out in installments over future years.
The deal also features a conditional $10 million team option for 2033, which could climb as high as $32.5 million depending on Sánchez’s health and performance, including Cy Young voting finishes.
A matching buyout structure is included, along with perks like a trade bonus and upgraded travel accommodations.
Overall, the new contract keeps parts of his previous deal intact while effectively adding $88 million in new guaranteed money across four additional seasons.
Sánchez is coming off a standout year in which he went 13-5 with a 2.50 ERA and a career-best 212 strikeouts.
He now joins fellow Phillies starters Jesús Luzardo, Zack Wheeler, and Aaron Nola as pitchers locked into long-term contracts, while top prospect Andrew Painter remains under team control through 2031.
