Just In: Tennessee Strikes Again in the Transfer Portal, Landing VCU Breakout Scoring Machine and Sharpshooting Guard to Bolster Elite-Eight Hopes

Coming off their third straight Elite Eight appearance, Rick Barnes and the Tennessee Volunteers have been aggressive in the transfer portal this offseason, with another major addition potentially on the way.

According to Joe Tipton of On3.com, Tennessee currently holds the “edge” in the race to land VCU standout guard Terrence Hill Jr., who has quickly become one of the most sought-after players in the portal.

Hill, a 6-foot-3 guard, recently visited Knoxville and has extended his stay, a pattern similar to several recent Tennessee commits who finalized their decisions after official visits.

While Kansas and Oklahoma have also shown interest, reports suggest Oklahoma is no longer a serious contender, leaving Tennessee in a strong position.

Ranked among the top guards in the transfer portal by multiple outlets, Hill boosted his national profile with a breakout NCAA Tournament performance, including a 34-point explosion in a comeback win over North Carolina.

He finished the season as one of the Atlantic 10’s top performers, earning First-Team All-Conference honors along with multiple postseason awards.

Statistically, Hill averaged 15.0 points per game on the season and shot 37% from three-point range, while also contributing as a playmaker and defender.

Over his final stretch of games, he elevated his production even further, proving he can perform against high-level competition on big stages.

For Tennessee, Hill would address a key need in perimeter scoring and shooting. The Volunteers struggled from deep last season, ranking near the bottom nationally in three-point production, making his outside shooting and scoring versatility especially valuable.

With Rick Barnes looking to reload rather than rebuild after another deep tournament run, Hill’s potential commitment could be a major piece in keeping Tennessee among the SEC’s elite heading into the new season.
