The Philadelphia Phillies will begin a road series on Tuesday night against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park, coming off a series win where they took two of three games from the Colorado Rockies at home.
Ahead of the matchup, the Phillies added outfielder Dylan Carlson on a minor league contract, according to NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Jim Salisbury. Carlson will report to Triple-A Lehigh Valley after recently appearing in three games for the Chicago Cubs.
The former first-round pick (2016 MLB Draft) has played for several teams, including the St. Louis Cardinals, Tampa Bay Rays, Baltimore Orioles, and Cubs, compiling a .233 career average with 43 home runs over seven seasons.
On social media, fans and analysts viewed the move as a low-risk depth addition, noting Carlson’s switch-hitting ability and past prospect pedigree, even though his production has dipped since his early breakout years.
The Phillies, currently 19-22 and sitting second in the NL East, have shown recent improvement by going 7-3 over their last 10 games as they prepare to continue their road trip after Boston with a stop in Pittsburgh.
