Despite a few occasional recruiting misses, Will Stein has been on an unbelievable run lately — one Kentucky football fans haven’t seen often in the modern era. Surpassing what Mark Stoops accomplished on the trail is impressive by itself, but building a class that’s flirting with the national top 10 is an entirely different level.
Over the last week alone, Stein has secured four commitments for Kentucky’s 2027 recruiting class, rapidly assembling a foundation capable of competing in both the SEC and nationally. At minimum, that kind of momentum should translate into postseason success down the line.
According to Rivals on X, three-star running back Mason Ball officially committed to Kentucky, becoming the latest addition to Stein’s fast-growing class. Big Blue Nation can officially celebrate another major recruiting win.
Ball now joins fellow three-star backs Bryian Duncan Jr. and Kelsey Gerald in Kentucky’s future backfield, giving the Wildcats an intriguing trio of runners. While none may currently project as a complete every-down superstar on their own, together they create a dangerous collection of weapons expected to support elite quarterback commit Jake Nawrot.
Competition inside the position room could become one of Kentucky’s biggest strengths. Stein appears intent on building a roster where players constantly push each other, and Ball’s explosive speed and playmaking ability should make him an immediate contender for touches once he arrives in Lexington.
A standout track athlete in high school, Ball rushed for 1,401 yards and 27 touchdowns as a junior while averaging 7.61 yards per carry, according to 247Sports. At nearly six feet tall and 185 pounds, he attracted serious interest from programs like Vanderbilt, Arkansas, and North Carolina before ultimately choosing the Wildcats.
For Kentucky fans, it’s becoming increasingly difficult not to get excited about the future. Stein’s aggressive investment in the 2027 class signals a long-term vision for sustained success in Lexington. While immediate wins remain important, the program’s future trajectory may be just as encouraging.
