Former Mets minor league infielder Rigo Terrazas has announced his retirement from professional baseball, bringing an end to a career that included time in both the New York Mets organization and his native Mexico.
In an emotional Instagram post, Terrazas reflected on the highs and lows of his baseball journey, thanking the sport for shaping his life while acknowledging the injuries and setbacks that prevented him from reaching his full potential.
The Mexican infielder said baseball was often unfair to him, citing physical setbacks that disrupted his development throughout his career.
Signed by the New York Mets in 2013, Terrazas spent several years in the club’s minor league system and emerged as a promising prospect in 2017.
While playing for the Kingsport Mets, he impressed with a .348 batting average, earned Appalachian League All-Star honors, and was recognized as the league’s Player of the Week.
However, his momentum slowed after reaching Class A in 2018, where he struggled offensively and was eventually released by the Mets later that season.
Terrazas continued his professional career in Mexico for four more years, most recently playing for the Guerreros de Oaxaca in 2023.
Despite never reaching the major leagues, Terrazas said he retires with no regrets, expressing pride in achieving his dream of signing with a Major League Baseball organization.
