The San Diego Padres made a series of roster moves Sunday, placing catcher Freddy Fermin on the seven-day concussion injured list and promoting catcher Blake Hunt from Triple-A El Paso.
To create room for Hunt on the 40-man roster, the Padres designated right-hander Ty Adcock for assignment.

Fermin suffered the injury during Saturday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles when a warm-up pitch from Yuki Matsui bounced in front of home plate and struck him in the mask, forcing him to exit in the sixth inning.
The 31-year-old Fermin has struggled offensively this season, hitting .148 with three home runs and 11 RBIs in 51 games.

Across five major league seasons with the Kansas City Royals and Padres, he owns a .250 career batting average with 23 home runs and 105 RBIs in 344 appearances.
Hunt, 27, is now in line to make his MLB debut after spending nine seasons in the minors. He has impressed this year, batting .289 with three home runs and eight RBIs across 15 minor league games.

Meanwhile, Adcock departs the Padres organization without making a major league appearance for the club. The 29-year-old posted a 7.94 ERA in 11 minor league outings this season and carries a 5.48 ERA over 18 career MLB appearances with the Seattle Mariners and New York Mets.
