Padres Place Freddy Fermin on Injured List, Call Up Blake Hunt in Roster Shuffle After Concussion Scare
The San Diego Padres have made a series of roster moves following an injury setback to catcher Freddy Fermin, who was placed on the 7-day injured list Sunday after suffering a concussion.
In a corresponding move, the team selected the contract of catcher Blake Hunt from Triple-A El Paso, while also designating right-hander Ty Adcock for assignment to clear space on the 40-man roster.
Fermin exits after scary on-field collision
Fermin’s injury occurred during Saturday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles when a warmup pitch from Yuki Matsui bounced in front of the plate and struck him in the catcher’s mask during the sixth inning. He was immediately removed from the game and replaced by Rodolfo Dúran.

The team later confirmed the concussion diagnosis, leading to his placement on the injured list.
Padres turn to Blake Hunt for catching depth
Replacing Fermin is Blake Hunt, a 27-year-old catcher who has been performing well at Triple-A El Paso. In eight games this season, Hunt was batting .269 with two doubles, a home run, and five RBIs across 26 at-bats.
A native of Santa Ana, California, Hunt was originally selected by the Padres in the 2017 Competitive Balance Round B Draft. He has since built an extensive minor league résumé, appearing in 552 games across various levels.
When he appears in a game, Hunt will be making his Major League debut and will wear jersey No. 26.
Ty Adcock designated for assignment
To accommodate the roster changes, the Padres designated right-hander Ty Adcock for assignment. Adcock appeared in 11 Minor League games this season across three affiliates, posting a 1-0 record with a 7.15 ERA, along with 15 strikeouts and six walks.
The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster as San Diego adjusts its depth chart amid the latest injury setback.
