The Philadelphia Phillies continue to focus on a postseason push, but one former pitching prospect has found a fresh opportunity elsewhere.
Right-hander Jesus Moreno, who was unexpectedly released by the organization earlier this year, has signed a minor league contract with the Minnesota Twins after spending only a brief time in the Phillies’ system.
Moreno, 18, originally signed with Philadelphia as an international free agent in July 2025.
He made just two Rookie-level appearances for the Phillies, tossing 2.1 innings without allowing an earned run, though he struggled with his command by issuing four walks.
Despite the small sample size and flashes of potential, the Phillies released him in March, a move that surprised many given how recently he had joined the organization.
Now, Moreno will continue his development with the Twins after signing a minor league deal and being assigned to the Dominican Summer League.
He has yet to make his debut for Minnesota, but the club is giving the young right-hander another opportunity to grow as he begins the next chapter of his professional career.
While Moreno starts over in a new organization, the Phillies remain focused on strengthening their major league roster ahead of the August 3 trade deadline.
Philadelphia has surged back into playoff contention after a slow start and is widely expected to pursue upgrades, particularly in the outfield and pitching staff, as it looks to challenge for the National League East title.
Although Moreno never reached full-season ball with Philadelphia, his quick landing with an American League organization illustrates how young pitching talent can still attract interest after being released.
