The Atlanta Braves made a quiet move just before their Yankees series, signing 18-year-old shortstop Troy Fisher to a minor league contract.
MLB’s transaction log shows the deal was completed on Aug. 6, with Fisher assigned to the Florida Complex League Braves the following day.
Fisher is a 6-foot-3, 195-pound right-handed-hitting shortstop who entered the professional ranks after coming out of the high school class of 2026.
The timing of the signing is notable because Fisher had previously been associated with Arkansas, and reports indicate he was an Arkansas high school shortstop committed to the Razorbacks before choosing to begin his professional career with Atlanta.
Rather than immediately throwing Fisher into a full-season minor league environment, the Braves are starting him in the FCL, giving the teenager an opportunity to adjust to professional baseball while working with the organization’s player-development staff.
At just 18, Fisher has plenty of time to develop his offensive approach, defensive consistency and overall game, making the signing more of a long-term investment than an immediate roster move.
His size and shortstop profile give Atlanta another young position player to monitor as its farm system continues to evolve.
The move also adds an interesting wrinkle to the Braves’ organizational depth at shortstop.
Atlanta has recently made several changes around the position at the major-league level, including trading for veterans and moving other players off the roster, while its minor-league system continues to develop younger options.
Fisher is obviously years away from being considered for a major-league role, but the Braves clearly saw enough potential to secure his services now.
For a team entering an important series against the Yankees, the signing may have received little attention, but it could eventually become an intriguing piece of Atlanta’s next generation.
