The Atlanta Braves have quietly added another intriguing piece to their minor-league system, signing former Toronto Blue Jays infielder Cade Doughty to a minor-league contract.
The move was completed on Aug. 10, shortly after Doughty was released by Toronto, and Atlanta immediately assigned him to the High-A Rome Emperors.
Doughty, 25, arrives in Atlanta with a solid amateur background and several years of professional experience.
The Blue Jays selected him in the second compensatory round of the 2022 MLB Draft out of LSU, where he established himself as a productive contact hitter.
He never ultimately broke through to the majors with Toronto, but his experience and versatility give the Braves another player to evaluate within their developing infield depth.
The signing also comes at an interesting time for Atlanta, which has continued making smaller moves to strengthen its minor-league pipeline.
Doughty spent time with New Hampshire in 2026 before being released on Aug. 4, creating an opportunity for the Braves to bring him into a new organization.
His assignment to Rome gives him an immediate chance to rebuild his momentum and potentially work his way toward a higher-level opportunity.
While the move is unlikely to generate the same attention as a major-league acquisition, it could prove worthwhile for the Braves if Doughty can rediscover the form that made him a draft selection.
Atlanta has already been active in adding minor-league talent this month, and Doughty now becomes another depth option the organization can develop.
For a player still looking for his first MLB appearance, the Braves offer a fresh opportunity to restart his path toward the majors.
