The New York Mets are reportedly keeping a close eye on Japanese slugger Teruaki Sato as they look toward adding more power to their lineup.
Sato, a standout for the Hanshin Tigers of Nippon Professional Baseball, has emerged as one of the most intriguing potential Japanese players who could eventually make the jump to Major League Baseball.
The Mets’ reported interest comes as the club searches for solutions to its offensive needs, particularly at first base. According to recent reporting, New York has been scouting Sato, who is expected to draw significant attention from MLB teams if and when he becomes available.
Sato has built a reputation in Japan as one of the game’s premier power hitters. The left-handed hitter has been a major offensive force since making his NPB debut with Hanshin in 2021, and his combination of size, bat speed and raw power has made him one of the league’s most recognizable sluggers.
He was the Central League MVP in 2025 and produced a breakout campaign that included 40 home runs and 102 RBIs, leading the league in both categories.
