Mets OFFICIALLY Confirm Six-Year MLB Veteran Sidelined by Severe Injury, Exits Team Indefinitely

The New York Mets have quietly revealed an injury situation involving veteran utility player Vidal Bruján, adding another wrinkle to the organization’s ongoing roster shuffle.

Bruján was transferred to the Development List by Triple-A Syracuse on July 22, according to MLB transaction records.

While the move does not provide extensive public detail about the nature or severity of the injury, it confirms that the six-year MLB veteran is currently unavailable to Syracuse as he deals with an issue.

Bruján has endured a turbulent 2026 campaign after joining the Mets organization in January. New York acquired the versatile infielder from the Minnesota Twins for cash, giving the club another player capable of handling multiple positions.

He opened the season with Syracuse after being outrighted, but his strong opportunity arrived in May when the Mets promoted him to the major-league roster following Ronny Mauricio’s thumb injury.

Bruján was selected to replace Mauricio and appeared in 2026 for New York, although his major-league production was limited to 11 at-bats and a .091 batting average.

The Mets later designated Bruján for assignment in June before sending him outright back to Syracuse.

His return to Triple-A gave him another chance to work his way back into the organization’s plans, but the latest Development List transaction has temporarily interrupted that opportunity.

Bruján’s versatility has long been one of his biggest assets, dating back to his early major-league career with the Tampa Bay Rays, where he developed a reputation for moving around the diamond and providing defensive flexibility.

For New York, the situation is worth monitoring even though the club has not publicly indicated that Bruján’s injury is expected to be long-term.

The 28-year-old has already dealt with multiple roster changes this season, making his latest absence another setback as he attempts to remain part of the Mets’ organizational depth.

Until more information becomes available, the Development List placement is the clearest indication of his current status, leaving the Mets and Syracuse to wait for his recovery before determining his next step.
