Injury Setback: Major Blow, Rangers Lose Key Bullpen Arm as Veteran Righty Hits 15-Day Injury List

The Texas Rangers have placed veteran right-handed reliever Chris Martin on the 15-day injured list due to right shoulder fatigue, the team announced Tuesday. The move is retroactive to Monday.

In response, the Rangers have called up rookie right-hander Cole Winn from Triple-A Round Rock to reinforce their bullpen.

Martin, 38, made his most recent appearance on Sunday, leaving the game after just one pitch during the eighth inning of a 4–3 loss to the Houston Astros. So far this season, Martin has compiled an 0-4 record with one save, a 1.83 ERA, three walks, and 23 strikeouts over 19 2/3 innings across 22 relief outings.

Over his MLB career, which began in 2014, Martin has played for seven teams, posting a 16–22 record with 15 saves, a 3.29 ERA, 48 walks, and 380 strikeouts across 366 1/3 innings in 391 regular-season appearances. He also has postseason experience, recording a 1.88 ERA with 10 strikeouts in 14 1/3 playoff innings.

Winn, 25, appeared in one game this season for the Rangers, delivering 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief against the Astros last Friday. Though he allowed three hits, he struck out one and walked none. The former 15th overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft debuted in 2024 and logged a 7.79 ERA with 14 strikeouts and four walks over 17 1/3 innings in 13 relief outings.
