The New York Giants are gearing up for a pivotal 2025 NFL Draft, holding the No. 3 overall pick, which could secure them a top-tier prospect. However, they may also choose to use this valuable pick to potentially find their future franchise quarterback. This decision carries significant weight, especially after their recent free-agent signings.
In the latest ESPN mock draft by Field Yates, the Giants are expected to stay at No. 3 and select Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, bypassing one of the draft’s top prospects. Yates notes that despite the signings of veteran quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, the Giants might still target Sanders for the long-term stability of the team. Sanders, known for his accuracy and touch, threw for 4,134 yards and completed 74% of his passes last season. While his urgency under pressure needs work, Yates suggests that sitting behind Wilson and Winston would give Sanders the chance to develop without the immediate pressure of starting.

Although Sanders is seen as the second-best quarterback in this draft, he is not typically considered a top-three pick, with many boards ranking him much lower. The Giants, however, are in need of a long-term quarterback solution, as both Wilson and Winston are on short-term contracts. If the Giants take Sanders, it would likely mean passing on top talent like Colorado’s Travis Hunter, considered by some as the best player in the class. This decision could be controversial, especially given the team’s need for immediate-impact players.
Yates also projected the Giants would trade down from their No. 34 pick in the second round to gain additional draft capital, selecting Alabama offensive lineman Tyler Booker instead. Booker is a powerful player and would offer a solid future option for the Giants’ offensive line, which saw little upgrade this offseason. However, Booker’s experience at left guard means he might need to transition to right guard, potentially taking time to adjust.
While the Giants are desperate for success after a disappointing 3-14 finish last season, this mock draft leans more toward adding talent for the long-term future. The team must find a balance between selecting players who can make an immediate impact and those who will help build a successful future.
