Despite trailing the NL Central-leading Chicago Cubs by seven games, the Cincinnati Reds remain firmly in the playoff mix—just 1.5 games behind the final NL Wild Card spot.
As they push toward the All-Star break, manager Terry Francona’s squad received positive news on the injury front. Reds beat writer Charlie Goldsmith shared Saturday via X (formerly Twitter) that pitcher Hunter Greene and outfielder Jake Fraley are progressing well in their recoveries.
“Hunter Greene will begin a Triple-A rehab assignment on Tuesday,” Goldsmith reported. “Jake Fraley is also progressing, getting in some at-bats this weekend. The team will reevaluate him on Monday once they’re back home.”
If both players stay on track, they could return right around the All-Star break—timing that would be critical for a Reds team battling for postseason contention.
Their return would add depth and experience to a young team trying to break into the October conversation.
Greene, who has steadily developed into the club’s ace since being selected second overall in 2017, made his first All-Star appearance last season and has continued to grow under Francona’s staff.
His presence in the rotation post-break could provide a significant boost.

Fraley, meanwhile, has emerged as a versatile outfield contributor, capable of covering all three positions. He recently received a cortisone shot to help with a shoulder sprain, and the Reds are optimistic about his recovery.
His return would bolster the bench and add flexibility for the stretch run. As the Reds chase a postseason berth, having Greene and Fraley back healthy could prove to be a major advantage.
