College football’s evolving NIL landscape has made the offseason increasingly complex, with top players across the country approaching their programs to renegotiate compensation for the following season.
Coaching staffs are now regularly forced to decide whether to increase NIL commitments to retain key contributors or risk losing them to the transfer portal and rival programs willing to meet their demands.
Missouri has chosen the retention route, announcing that standout running back Jamal Roberts has officially committed to return for the 2026 season.

Roberts, a three-star recruit in the 2023 class, emerged as a major offensive weapon in 2025 alongside Ahmad Hardy. He carried the ball 124 times for 753 yards and six touchdowns, averaging an impressive 6.1 yards per rush.
The pairing of Hardy and Roberts became the backbone of head coach Eli Drinkwitz’s offense, making the return of both running backs a top offseason priority in Columbia. Hardy had already confirmed his return prior to Missouri’s Gator Bowl appearance in December, and Roberts’ announcement now secures the Tigers’ top backfield combination for next season.
With both players set to return, Missouri enters the 2026 campaign with continuity and proven production at one of the most important positions on the roster.
