Missouri men’s basketball is off to an impressive start in the spring transfer portal, landing one of the nation’s top available players in former Providence standout Jamier Jones, who also ranked among the best freshmen in the country last season.

Jones, a member of the 2025–26 Big East All-Freshman Team, is widely regarded as a top-50 transfer prospect, earning rankings as high as No. 40 nationally by 247Sports while also placing inside the top 50 according to ESPN, Field of 68, and On3.

Head coach Dennis Gates expressed excitement about the addition, praising Jones for his standout freshman year and continued growth at the Power Five level.

He highlighted Jones’ versatility, calling him a player capable of impacting the game in multiple ways, while also noting his size and ability to attack offensively and contribute on both ends of the floor.

During his freshman season with Providence, Jones averaged 11.9 points per game while shooting an efficient 57 percent from the field and 38.7 percent from three-point range.

He also contributed 4.5 rebounds per game along with 42 assists and 27 steals across 31 appearances. Notably, he was one of just 11 freshmen in the country to average at least 10 points and four rebounds while shooting 55 percent or better.

The 6-foot-6 wing from Sarasota, Florida, consistently produced throughout the season, scoring in double figures in 21 games.

He posted a season-high 23 points against Villanova and added a 20-point performance against national runner-up UConn. His production increased in conference play, where he averaged 13.6 points per game in Big East matchups.

Coming out of Oak Ridge High School, Jones was a highly regarded recruit, ranked as high as No. 37 nationally.

He put together an outstanding senior season, averaging 20.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 2.2 steals, while helping lead his team to a Florida State Championship Game appearance and a top-10 national ranking.

Jones now joins a Missouri program that has built strong momentum, earning back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances and recording double-digit SEC wins in consecutive seasons for the first time since joining the conference in 2012.

The Tigers also boast the nation’s No. 4-ranked freshman class for the 2026–27 season, signaling a bright future for the program.
