The New York Mets reportedly have an emerging internal option who could eventually step into Kodai Senga’s spot in the starting rotation after his recent struggles.
Senga entered the 2026 season with optimism that he had corrected the late-season issues that plagued him in 2025, when he finished September with a 6.18 ERA. After a strong spring training that suggested a return to ace form, he opened the year solidly with respectable early outings against the Cardinals and Giants.
However, his performance has since unraveled, as he was hit hard in his most recent starts against the Cubs and Athletics, allowing 14 runs, multiple home runs, and a high number of hits over just a few innings. The slump has raised concern within the organization, especially as the Mets continue to struggle through a prolonged losing streak.
As a result, attention has turned to the minor leagues, where the Mets have several potential replacements developing. Jonah Tong remains a high-upside arm despite late-season struggles last year, while Christian Scott has returned strong following Tommy John surgery and is performing well in Triple-A.
Another name gaining momentum is top pitching prospect Jack Wenninger, who has made significant strides over the past year. After posting strong numbers in Double-A last season, he has carried that success into Triple-A with a 1.88 ERA and impressive strikeout totals across his early starts.
With a deep arsenal that includes a high-velocity fastball and multiple secondary pitches, Wenninger has continued to raise his stock as a potential future rotation piece.
