The New York Mets are reportedly showing interest in familiar territory as they continue searching for bullpen depth, attending a recent bullpen session for free agent right-hander Max Kranick in Philadelphia.
Kranick, who is drawing attention from multiple teams including the Yankees, Blue Jays, Phillies, Rangers, Mariners, Guardians, Marlins, Angels, and Nationals, threw 20 pitches during the workout and reportedly impressed scouts while sitting in the 91–94 mph range.
The 28-year-old right-hander is looking for a major league contract after a solid 2025 season with the Mets, where he posted a 3.65 ERA, a 1.05 WHIP, and 25 strikeouts over 37 innings out of the bullpen before an elbow injury ended his year prematurely.
That injury required flexor tendon surgery and halted what had been a key role in New York’s strong early-season run last year, when Kranick emerged as a reliable bullpen arm. Prior to that, he had not pitched in the majors since his time with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2022.

Across his MLB career, Kranick owns a 4.69 ERA in 35 appearances, relying primarily on a four-seam fastball and slider combination to generate outs.
The Mets’ interest comes amid ongoing bullpen turnover, with the team recently moving on from veteran Luis Garcia, trading Richard Lovelady, and placing Joey Gerber on the injured list due to a finger blister.
With additional reinforcements like A.J. Minter working back from injury, New York continues to explore cost-effective options, and a reunion with Kranick could provide familiar, experienced depth to a bullpen in flux.
