The Texas Rangers sit in the middle of the American League standings, but if they want to be true postseason contenders, they may need to upgrade their bullpen by adding a proven closer.
Right now, Texas is using a closer-by-committee approach, with Jakob Junis and Tyler Alexander handling most of the save opportunities despite having very limited prior closing experience, as noted by Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller.
While both pitchers have performed adequately, there is a belief that the Rangers would benefit from a more established late-inning arm to stabilize high-leverage situations as the season progresses.
Miller also pointed to potential trade targets like Aroldis Chapman and Jhoan Durán, both of whom could become available if their current teams decide to sell, with Chapman already having a successful history in Texas during their 2023 championship run.
As the season unfolds, the Rangers will have to decide whether to continue with their internal options or pursue an aggressive trade to solidify the closer role for a deeper playoff push.
