Kentucky Roster Boost: Kentucky Basketball Lands Massive 5-Star Guard in Stunning Recruiting Coup That Sends Shockwaves Through College Hoops as Wildcats Beat Out Top Programs for Elite Talent Boost

Following a busy recruiting weekend, Mark Pope and the Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball staff have expanded their 2027 and 2028 recruiting boards, extending multiple new scholarship offers to emerging prospects.

One of the latest targets is 2027 guard King Gibson, who announced the offer on social media, expressing gratitude to Kentucky for the opportunity.

Gibson also picked up an offer from John Calipari and the Arkansas Razorbacks men’s basketball on the same day, adding to a growing list that includes programs such as North Carolina, Michigan, and Houston.

He has already taken visits to Michigan and NC State and is expected to schedule trips to Kentucky, UConn, and Arkansas in the near future.

At this stage, Michigan Wolverines men’s basketball is considered a strong early contender after hosting him on an official visit, aided in part by staff connections tied to his hometown of Burlington, North Carolina.

Kentucky, however, has remained heavily involved, maintaining consistent contact with Gibson since last summer despite coaching changes.

Assistant coach Mo Williams was also present to evaluate him during recent Nike EYBL action in Memphis, reinforcing the program’s continued interest and focus on his development as a high-level guard prospect.

Ranked as the No. 7 overall player and No. 2 combo guard in the 2027 class by 247Sports, Gibson is viewed by Kentucky as a primary point guard target thanks to his scoring ability, playmaking vision, and strong control of the game despite his natural scoring instincts.

Overall, Kentucky continues to cast a wide and aggressive net in the 2027 cycle as it builds out its future backcourt.
