Tennessee basketball has finished assembling its 2026 recruiting class, bringing in a strong group of talent, and head coach Rick Barnes has now turned his attention toward shaping the 2027 cycle.
While no major priority targets have fully emerged yet, Tennessee has already begun early groundwork by extending an offer to a highly intriguing 7-foot-1 center, Akol Nyok, from Miami Columbus High School in Florida.
Nyok is viewed as a long-term developmental prospect with significant upside if he reaches his full potential at the next level. At 7-foot-1 and 195 pounds, he is still very lean and will need to add strength and refine his game, but his physical tools make him an appealing project. He draws some comparison to other raw big men Tennessee has recruited recently, as both require development but offer high ceilings.

According to Rivals, Nyok is currently ranked as a three-star recruit and the No. 119 player in the 2027 class, though evaluations remain fluid given his injuries and relatively limited exposure.
Despite being under the radar with just a handful of scholarship offers, Nyok has already drawn interest from programs like Marquette and Saint Louis, both of which have strong reputations for developing talent.

Tennessee’s coaching staff values athletic, mobile big men who can defend the rim, rebound, and finish plays above the basket, and Nyok fits that mold well. His mobility and length give him the ability to impact the game defensively while developing offensively over time.
With the 2027 recruiting cycle still in its early stages, Tennessee’s early offer signals that the Vols are already laying the foundation for the future, hoping to stay ahead if Nyok’s stock rises significantly.
