MLB Trade Shockwave: Red Sox and Mets Swap Young Pieces in MLB Trade Idea, Sending Mark Vientos to the Boston Red Sox for a Key Red Sox Player

The Boston Red Sox have a clear need for middle-of-the-order offense, but finding the right trade solution is far from straightforward.

Although trade discussions are circulating across MLB, that doesn’t guarantee a deal will actually materialize.

Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow and team president and CEO Sam Kennedy have both indicated that the organization is actively exploring the market with the goal of strengthening the lineup rather than reshaping it entirely.

However, making a trade at this point in the season remains complicated. With plenty of games left, many teams are still trying to salvage their seasons rather than sell off talent.

Boston, sitting 10 games under .500, is among those looking to buy, but identifying willing trade partners is difficult since few clubs are ready to part with key contributors.

One potential match for Boston is the New York Mets, a team in a similarly disappointing position with a 24-33 record. Both organizations entered the season with high expectations but have struggled to meet them, making a potential deal between the two more realistic since each side has different roster needs.

For Boston, the priority remains adding power in the middle of the order. The outfield and infield core are relatively set, but the Red Sox could still benefit from a bat capable of producing consistent extra-base power, particularly at third base or second base depending on internal roster decisions.

A name that stands out is Mets infielder Mark Vientos, a 26-year-old slugger who has shown notable power upside. He has hit seven home runs in 49 games this season, and previously posted 17 homers in 2025 and 27 in 2024, indicating legitimate middle-order potential.

On the Mets’ side, pitching help remains a priority as they look to stabilize their big league rotation. That opens the door for a hypothetical trade scenario between the two clubs.

In a proposed framework, Boston would receive Vientos to bolster its lineup, while New York would acquire left-handed pitching prospect Jake Bennett, who may not have a clear path to the majors in a crowded Red Sox rotation picture but could provide immediate value for the Mets.

If Boston were to move forward with such a deal, Vientos could step in at third base and add much-needed right-handed power, while allowing additional infield flexibility depending on roster health and positioning.
